  • F1 passes puck to forward
  • D Skates to middle ice
  • Show the forward away to go

  • F1 passes puck to forward
  • D pressures up
  • D plays Man-You-Goal
  • Play 1 v 1 to finish




1 v 1 Protect Middle
  • D passes puck to forward
  • D pressures up, stops and protects middle ice
  • D playing Man-You-Goal
  • D shows away for forward to go
  • Play 1 v 1 to finish



1 v 1 Take Away Forehand - Force Puck Carrier to Backhand

  • D passes puck to forward
  • D pressures up, protects middle
  • D playing Man-You-Goal
  • D shows  forward to go to backhand
  • Play 1 v 1 to Finish

  • D passes puck to forward
  • D pressures up, takes away Boards
  • D forces puck carrier to middle and pressures Up
  • D shows away for forward to go

  • Force the player to backhand

Take Away
  • Take away forehand


Show the Way
  • Square your skates and protect middle


Challenge the Shooter
  • Body in shooting lane
  • Stick passing lanes


Always Pressure Through Middle Ice
  • Band things happen when puck is in middle ice
  • Pressure and take away angle to net



Individual Tactics:



1. Good Defense Starts with Proper Body Position and Stance.
-Eyes Up
-low Stance
-Knees Bent
-Skates Shoulder width apart

2. The Low Man Always Wins On Defense

3. Stick out in front of you.
-Active Smart Stick (ASS)
-Body in Shooting Lane, Stick in passing lanes

4. Split the Ice in half.
-Do not let the puck carrier to other side of ice
-Initiate Contact if your players tries to enter scoring area
-Do not let a player break you down in center ice

5. Force the Player where you want him to go.
-Force to space on ice
-Force him to his backhand

6. Play the Body. Stick and Puck in that order.

7. Checking

a. Angle Check
-Low stance always win
-Head should be lower then the players arm pit
-Two hands on stick when initiating contact
-Knees bent and explode into puck carrier

b. Straight on Check
-Force the Puck Carrier in the direction you dictate
-Low Stance
-Head under Chin (General Rule)
-Two hands on stick when initiating contact
-Knees bent and explode into puck carrier



Keys:

  • Speed but in control
  • Get down low, but eyes up
  • Come in on angle or circular approach
  • Control where the puck carrier is going
  • Show him away to go
  • Open door to boards or backhand



Terms:

  • No free shots
  • ASS: Angle, Speed, Show
  • ASS: Always Stop Set up

Read The Puck Carrier Is On Backhand and Pressure Up

Two Playing Rules:

1.  Pressure the puck carrier when on backhand.

2. Defensive players need to  stop in passing lanes.
