Keep Your Eyes On The Prize

Pete Rose - MLB Records

4,256 career hits

3,562 career games played
14,053 career at-bats

Peter Edward Rose (born April 14, 1941), nicknamed "Charlie Hustle was about to break Ty Cobb’s all time hits record.  One reporter asked, “Pete, you only need 78 hits to break the record. How many at-bats do you think you’ll need to get the 78 hits?” Immediately Pete responded, “78.” The reporter yelled back, “Ah, come on Pete, you don’t expect to get 78 hits in 78 at-bats do you?” Mr. Rose  said “Every time I step up to the plate, I expect to get a hit! If I don’t expect to get a hit, I have no right to step in the batter’s box in the first place!” “If I go up hoping to get a hit,” he continued, “then I probably don’t have a prayer to get a hit. It is a positive expectation that has gotten me all of the hits in the first place.”

Pete Rose Philosophy for Success:
  • Keep your eyes on your goals
  • Believe in yourself
  • Expect to win
  • Choose to work hard everyday
  • Go the extra mile - Give more then others expect.

Coaching:

“Some players you pat their butts, some players you kick their butts, some players you leave alone.”  -Pete Rose

Desire

“I'd walk through hell in a gasoline suit to play baseball.”  -Pete Rose

Focus:

“See the ball; hit the ball.”   -Pete Rose

Practice:

"My father taught me that the only way you can make good at anything is to practice, and then practice some more.-Pete Rose

“It's easy to practice something that you are good at, and that is what most people do. What is tough is to go out and to work hard on the things that you don't do very well.”
 -Pete Rose

Focus on Improving Daily, Rather Than Being the Best!

Believing you have the ability to improve and reach your goals. Your abilities are not fixed. Focus on goals that develop the necessary skills for you to succeed. There is no such things as a bad athlete. There only untrained athletes.
