 Sports Psychology Tips:
Let Go of Losses, Setbacks and Anger

"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.”
-Isaiah 43:18

Venus Williams  failed to win medal at the  2012 Olympics.  She suffered from depression after the loss. She was devastated by her poor play and struggled daily with her game. Venue "said" I needed to let go of the loss.
1.  Forgive yourself and others
2.  Learn from your mistakes
3.  Find support -  Venus  went to her father.
4.  Find the upside of the loss
5.  Plan your comeback
6.  Write down some new goals

2 v 2 Defensive Rush

  • HSC Csíkszereda is in good position 2 v 2

  • HSC Csíkszereda can do one of two things here:

  1. Back check down middle ice and pick up forward in scoring zone.
  2. The forward can turn backwards and stay between the offensive players and the net.

  • In this clip you can see the results of going outside the dots. You always want to be in man-you-goal positioning. Here both the defense and forward skate outside the dots, giving away middle ice.

Coaching Tips:
 Three Stages of Becoming
A Great Coach

1. An average coach impresses players.

2. A good coach impacts players.

3. A great coach inspires players for a lifetime.

Sports Psychology Tips:  Three Types of Goals; Performance, Process and Outcome Goals

Performance goals are things you can do that you are 100% control of  such as the number of hours you will train and number of repetition in gym. Performance goals focus on success or failure at the task.

Process goals focus on mastering specific skills such as skating, puck control,  passing and shooting.  Executing process goals increase the probability of achieving your desired outcome.  Process goals break things down into manageable components or actions to improve your tactical and technical skill development.

Outcome goals such as “I want to make the national team” or “win the championship” etc. However, outcome goals are usually not under your full control. Outcome goals can be huge motivational factor or become a major source of pressure and frustration. Athletes must balance performance, process and outcome goals to reach their optimum motivational level.
